The Drill: 1st to 3rd

Description: This competition teaches the proper path for running from 1st to 3rd.

Instructions: Players all start at first base. Each player starts off with the same lead (8 to 10 feet). A coach simulates the pitcher. Runner starts with the pithers left foot movement and rounds second for third base. To lessen the chance o a turned ankle or twisted knee, have runner simply cross third base without sliding. A second coach operates the stop watch. Have runners try different paths to third, shallow, wide, tight, etc. and use stopwatch to determine their best time. Have runners exagerate the path, running extra wide around second base, and turning extra sharp, and show them the difference in the times.
