Iron Cross

For age level: 11 to 13

Explanation: Place 4 pylons at the edge of the face off circle. Skater begins on the face off dot. Coach indicates which direction the player is to move by pointing his stick left, right, back or forward. To move left or right, player performs cross overs, returning to the face off dot each time. The Player remains facing and looking at the coach at all times. Continue for 30 to 45 seconds.

Tips: The crossovers are the most tiring and difficult portion of the drill, and likely the most important, especially for defense men. Make sure players do their cross overs properly. It is better to slow down and do them right than to rush and use sloppy feet. A drill duration of 30 to 45 seconds is similar to the effort and duration of a shift in a game played at high tempo.
