Transition Race

For age level: ----

Explanation: Form two lines, A and B in opposite corners. Position two long obstacles, such as a board or a hockey stick, as shown in the diagram, one in the lower corner of the circle and one in the top corner. Also place two pylons at the blue line. Player A and B start on the coaches whistle, skate forward to the first obstacle then transition to backwards skating around the obstacle, transition to forward to the second obstacle, transition to backwards past the obstacle, transition to forwards up and around the pylon. The coach passes a puck to the center of the ice. First player to the puck takes the puck to shoot on net.

Tips: Teach the players to transition from forward to backward so that they remain facing the play, the coach, at all times.
