Direction Control

For age level: 14 to 16

Explanation: 3 separate skating drills to work on mobility and footwork. Drill 1, players start at edge of crease and skate forwards to 3 positions then return backwards. Drill 2 is the Iron Cross, skate forwards to each of 4 positions on circle, then backwards to center dot. Drill 3 is forwards - backwards shadow. Skaters begin 20 feet apart, facing each other. Skater 1 skates forwards and backwards with quick changes in direction. Skater 2 must shadow skater 1 and try to maintain 20 foot gap.

Tips: Have players move quickly at each drill. Maximum effort here will provide additional conditioning benefits.
